Hey everybody! Welcome to my reviews page and my very first review.
I've had some experience with reviews in the school paper and I thought that I would take my love of restaurants (and eating!) and put it to some use. The place I'm reviewing today is called The Shop.
Located on 460 Wickenden Street in Providence, RI The Shop is a small, hole in the all coffee shop that offers coffee, baked goods, and a few food items. The first impression that it gives is a very chic, understated vibe. One that makes you want to grab a cup of coffee, sit on the bench and read a book all day.
When you go inside you're greeted with a funky design with accents of wood, wallpaper, and the strong scent of brewed coffee.
Owners, John Paul and Diana Murton show their love for organic and fresh food through their website http://www.theshopfoxpoint.com/ with their promise of local vendors, grass-fed dairy, and homemade pastries.
The moment you walk in to the moment you leave you're greeted with impeccable service and a smile with every interaction you have with the staff. I was extremely curious on the matter of what exactly durum bread was and the barista was extremely helpful. He even went to the lengths of pulling out the bread and showing me how it was made.
I ended up ordering the avocado toast on multigrain and chickpea toast on durum.
The avocado toast surprised me at first due to it's unorthodox appearance. While I appreciated the attempt at originality there is something to be said about the convenience of the meal. When I'm out with my friends I don't really want to be assembling the meal for myself. However, the avocado was perfectly ripe and fresh and the multigrain was beautifully baked with an earthy rich flavor.
The chickpea and hummus salad on the other hand was easy enough to assemble, albeit a little more difficult to eat due to the crunchy texture of the durum bread. However, it was nicely seasoned and creamy with just a little too much arugula for my taste. The slight bitterness and peppery flavor of arugula tends to overwhelm the dish somewhat.
All in all, an extremely nice place to have a small lunch with friends or a great place to grab some coffee, sit down, do some work and read a book. Very highly recommended and I would definitely go there again.
See you soon!
